Transparency: Revitalize Civic Participation

I look forward to continuing my work fostering and promoting citizen participation as Monterey’s next Mayor. I will partner with the Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program (NCIP) to strengthen community engagement, and involve a broader representation of community members on city boards, commissions, and committees. Monterey can and should do more to use 21st century tools to ensure that Monterey residents from all walks of life have proper representation in our city.

Since my time on the council we have updated the City website and established HaveYourSayMonterey.org, a platform that gathers feedback, discusses topics, and informs the public about important policy, planning, programs, and projects taking shape in the Monterey community.

To promote transparency, I also championed the effort in establishing campaign contribution limits. Prior to the 2020 election candidates could receive unlimited amounts of contributions in the City of Monterey’s elections. The current limit is now set at $520 per donor.
